Large tree crashes into traffic on Singapore road

A huge tree came crashing down into traffic on a major Singapore road earlier this week, partially crushing one vehicle and somehow falling harmlessly around another.

Dashcam video taken by Albert Liang of the dangerous demise of the sea apple tree on Aljunied Road, a main artery of the city-state, shows just how lucky one driver was to avoid injury.

The red hatchback, sailing along in the right lane, passes beneath the tree precisely as the first bough goes over and lands directly in front of the vehicle, which slams into the wood.

Barely a second later the second trunk comes down, mercifully hitting bitumen instead of the car, which is left enshrouded with leaves.

Invisible in the dashcam footage is another vehicle in the far left lane, half of which was left looking as if it had been through a compacter from the impact.

As the Straits Times reports, however, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident, with the only cost being a couple of hours' delay for motorists.
