Ivana Smit: Naked model found on apartment balcony may have been murdered

A Dutch model whose death was declared by Malaysian authorities as a tragic accident was already dead before her body was dropped from a 20^th floor apartment, a pathologist has suggested.

The lack of blood found around Ivana Smit's naked body indicates she was dead when her body fell 14 floors and landed on a balcony on December 7 in Kuala Lumpur.

She also had injuries caused before the fall, pathologist Frank van de Goot told Dutch newspaper the Telegraaf this week.

Police in Malaysia said Ms Smit, 18, died from a fall from the high-rise apartment block, but her parents hired  private investigator Mark Williams-Thomas to investigate further.

The former British policeman said he believed Ms Smit may have been murdered.

"I have no doubt, with the evidence that I now have… and other information we have through forensics, we are in a position to say very clearly… in the UK this would be treated as a homicide investigation," Mr Williams-Thomas said.

CCTV shot hours before her death shows Ms Smit in the arms of American cryptocurrency trader Alexander Johnson.

Ms Smit was in the apartment of Mr Johnson and his wife Luna at the time of her death.

The couple were charged with drug abuse four days after Ms Smit's death, and spent a week behind bars before being released on bail.

It has been reported the trio were in a drug-fuelled tryst.

Police in Malaysia have now reopened the case.
