An Irish woman who called police and asked for a ride to her mum’s house has pleaded her case in court.

Denise Hynds said she was on “a mad auld binge” when she called emergency officers asking them to “please help me”, Limavady Magistrate’s Court heard.

Police arrived at Hynds’ house to find her drinking a can of beer at the kitchen table, according to the Derry Journal.

The 44-year-old woman later admitted to authorities that she simply wanted a ride to her mother’s home.

Hynds was charged with wasting police time and given a four-month sentence.

“She’s in prison now and she is doing everything she can to get away from this spiral of drink and drugs,” defence solicitor Paddy McGurk said.
