US president Barack Obama ‘snubs’ Iraqi prime minister at G7 summit

An awkward moment has transpired at the G7 summit in Germany after US President Barack Obama seemingly snubbed the newly elected Iraqi PM.

During a photo op at the Schloss Elmau resort in the Bavarian Alps, Mr Obama was seen sitting down deep in conversation with the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde, and the Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.

On his left side sat Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Jawad Kadhim al-Abadi, who appeared to be biding his time, waiting for the moment to strike up a chat with the president.

However in one, swift movement, Mr Obama stood up and turned his back, continuing his chat with Lagarde – prompting the clearly disgruntled Mr al-Abadi to give a small shrug before walking off with a colleague.
