Iraqi airstrike on ISIL targets captured on aerial cameras

If you're sharp-eyed enough, you can see the missiles in the air split-seconds before ISIL targets are destroyed.

In footage released by Iraq's Ministry of Defence; trucks, cars and buildings controlled by ISIL militants are seen in the crosshairs of Iraqi aircraft.

In a flash of light the targets are hit by missiles and engulfed in a cloud of fire.

The videos were filmed in and around the ancient city of Samarra northwest of Baghdad.

It is not known when the video was filmed but an earlier report stated an Iraqi drone strike in the area killed three terrorists in late December.

That month soldiers from the Saraya al-Salam militia reportedly repulsed an attack on the city from ISIL jihadists.

On Sunday the Iraqi Army released footage showing a deadly drone strike on an ISIL truck in Tikrit.

Despite Iraq's recent successes in combating ISIL, the jihadist group captured new ground in Syria's Deir Al-Zour province, killing scores of troops and civilians over the weekend.

The group took advantage of a sandstorm to advance on an army base and the village of Ayash.

Al Jazeera reports that if ISIL captures the city of Deir Al-Zour, it will be a propaganda coup for the terror group.
