Indian plane engineer dies after being 'sucked into' engine

An Air India employee has reportedly died after he was accidentally sucked into a plane engine.

Ravi Subramanium, an engineer, was working on the live engine of a A-319 plane when the accident occurred at Mumbai airport, according to the Times of India.

The plane was being slowly pushed back from a parking bay to prepare for take-off.

The flight was due to depart for Hyderabad, in the country’s south-east.

"Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family," Air India said in a statement.

"We are deeply saddened and regret the tragic incident".
