Homeless man writes touching note to cop

A homeless man in Florida has handwritten a touching letter to a police officer who helped him get back on his feet.

In the letter dated July 27, the man says he was living on the streets with his dog after losing his job, the New York Daily News reports.

That was until he met Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputy Alex Alphonso who "helped me change my life for the better".

"Officer Alphonso approached me and knew I was not a trouble maker. Just a guy down on his luck," the letter reads.

"I had to save to get a new place to stay to keep my dog of 13 + years ... He and I talked and I eventually got a place, home for my dog (my best friend) and I was then able to pursue work."

The homeless man now reports he got a job at Bed Bath and Beyond which he has held down for four months.

Deputy Alphonso has previously made headlines for being involved in an off-duty shooting, which the author appears to allude to noting his "rough stretch".

The note was posted on a police Facebook page and where dozens of people praising the post as "heartwarming" and "touching".

"So many of us would look at this man and see a potential criminal. This deputy looked at him and simply saw a man," one Facebook user wrote.
