Motorist slams into oncoming traffic on busy highway

A hatchback careening down the wrong side of a highway has caused a sickening head-on crash that remarkably only caused minor injuries.

A man in his 60s was driving a Toyota Yaris into oncoming traffic on highway PR-53 in Puerto Rico near the towns of Ceiba and Fajardo, local media reported yesterday.

A motorist travelling in the same direction but on the right side of the dual carriageway filmed the impending disaster through their side window.

Cars are seen speeding around the confused motorist until one driver, a man in his 40s, has no space to dodge the hatchback.

The cars slammed into each other head-on in a shuddering impact.

Both drivers were taken to Hospital Caribbean in Fajardo with minor injuries.
