German man invents lock to stop people stealing his Nutella

A German man faced with the age old question, “how do I stop people from eating my Nutella?” has come up with an ingenious, low-cost solution.  

Daniel Schloblock, a furniture and fittings worker from Berlin, invented the Nutella Lock to in a crackdown on hazelnut spread thieves.

The idea, he told The Local, was born out of a conversation with his friend about his children’s literally sticky fingers.

“The idea started out as a joke,” Mr Schloblock said.

“One of my friends was always getting worked up because his children were stealing his Nutella.”

Mr Schloblock designed an acrylic lock Nutella lovers can screw onto the jars and padlock with a key.

Initially the invention was just for his friend, but soon word spread of the creation and Mr Schloblock decided to try selling the item.

“As the demand continued to grow, we decided to offer the device on eBay,” Mr Schloblock told The Local.

More than 1000 of the locks were ordered within days, cleaning out Mr Schlobock of his original stock.
