Fox News anchors try vegemite on air, hilarity follows

Video of a US breakfast show team marking Australia Day by sampling Vegemite toast live on air has been posted online.

The FOX17 Morning News team weren't exactly enamoured with our "national condiment" – and though the results are somewhat predictable, that doesn't make them any less amusing.

The idea for the taste test came from weatherman Jon Shaner, who hosted an Australian exchange student at his house last year; apparently she makes sure he has a steady supply of the nutritious black yeast extract, possibly because she is hilarious.

"People compare it to peanut butter in the US," Shaner explains, as his co-anchors visit a flavour country to which they will likely never return.

"For a second there it tasted like fish," says one.

"The longer it's in your mouth, the more salty it tastes."

Deanna Falzone, the team's newest member, struggles the most.

"I can't even swallow that," she says.

"It tastes like throw up."
