A fox has been discovered frozen in ice in Germany as Europe shivers through a brutally cold winter.

It is believed the fox drowned and became frozen in ice after falling into the River Danube near the town of Fridingen on January 9, The Independent reports.

The animal was discovered four days later by a member of the public who cut the ice around it with a saw.

Extreme weather has hit much of Europe in recent weeks, with blizzards and cold temperatures sweeping the continent.

More than 60 people have lost their lives in the cold weather, while 330,000 homes in France were left without power overnight.
