Four hurt as car slams into Shanghai restaurant

A female driver injured four people dining at a restaurant in China late this week when she slammed through the shopfront after mistakenly hitting the accelerator instead of the brake.

The woman was reportedly trying to park out the front of the eatery on Friday afternoon (local time) when the accident happened.

Although it was fortunate no one was killed, the nose of her sedan crashed into the only table in use in the otherwise empty establishment.

The unlucky group of diners were hurled from their chairs when the vehicle, apparently travelling at a relatively low speed, ploughed through their table.

Staff clustered near the reception desk can be seen holding their heads in shock in surveillance footage of the incident.

The four members of the dining party were taken to hospital with minor injuries, while the woman's vehicle had to be towed, police said.
