A female police officer in Paris has reportedly been injured in an attack outside the presidential residence.

French media are reporting four suspects fled from a vehicle after it drove straight into a policewoman outside the Elysee Palace.

It is believed President Francois Hollande was inside at the time.

Reports suggest two people have been arrested and another two remain on the run.

The officer has been taken to hospital.

It is believed the incident is not terrorism-related, with French police sources claiming the alleged driver had been drinking and lost control of the car.

However, witnesses have said the driver made no attempt to avoid the police officer, sparking suspicions it may have been a deliberate attack.
