Father of the bride stuns wedding guests by rising from his wheelchair to walk his daughter down the aisle

A father of the bride has stunned wedding guests by standing up from his wheelchair to walk his daughter down the aisle.

Ralph Duquette from Maine in the United States was diagnosed with leukemia in October 2012 and began to use a wheelchair after extensive chemotherapy.

His daughter Heather told ABC News she had accepted his health issues meant her father wouldn’t walk her down the aisle.

“We had talked about it about a year ago but we realized in the condition he was in it just wasn’t going to be possible,” she said.

But to her surprise, on the day he rose from his chair and walked the full aisle.

He had asked his physical therapists to help him make sure it would happen.

“When I saw him get up and come towards me I was overwhelmed,” she said.

“I started crying uncontrollably in front of everybody.”

Mr Duquette also danced with his daughter at the reception.
