Monty Panesar caught on dating app Tinder
England cricket flop Monty Panesar has attempted to put his team's humiliating Ashes defeat behind him – by trying to tempt a blonde back to the team's hotel room using the dating app Tinder.
Panesar, 31, chatted up the American backpacker on the app for four hours after bowling the final ball in the Fourth Test.
The spin bowler told her that they would have to meet at his hotel because the team was not allowed out.
The woman, who is in her twenties and known only as Alison, told the UK's Daily Mirror that she recognised Panesar on Tinder after he uploaded a picture of himself batting against Australia.
"I sent a message because I wondered whether it was really him. I was shocked when it was."
The divorced Sikh responded that it was and told her that he loved American girls and tried to entice her back to his hotel room because players had been banned from going out following their poor performance in the series.
But despite his string of messages to Alison, Panesar failed to bowl her over.
"I would have met him in a public place but I was not going to meet him at his apartment by myself. You would hope people do not do that," she said.
