Elderly TV presenter labels co-host a c--- on air

It’s one of the first lessons media students are given – when the mic is live, watch your mouth.

But sometimes the best of us forget the most basic rules, which is apparently what happened to veteran British TV presenter Helen McDermott last week, when she called her co-host a c--- on air.

Ms McDermott, has apologised and been disciplined for the rude slur, which she jokingly levelled at co-anchor Darren Eadie, a former footballer.

The pair were prerecording the introduction for a package Mr Eadie had made about a trip to Norfolk, but it seems the wrong recording went to air.

In the course of some good-natured banter, Mr Eadie implied that Ms McDermott, 61, was a “relic”.

In response, Ms McDermott said:

“This is what happened when this c*** went to Happisburgh beach to look at some fossils or something.”

Fiona Ryder, the managing director of Mustard TV, said in a statement that “the wrong edit of the segment was broadcast. Helen and Mustard TV apologise for this lapse and for any offence caused.

"An apology from Helen was carried on Mustard TV at the next available opportunity and the inappropriate language was removed immediately from any repeat showing live or online.

"Internal disciplinary action has been taken with the presenter concerned."
