Elderly man gifted truck after pushing lawn mower to work every day

An elderly US man has been gifted a new truck after he would push his lawn mower for kilometres to get to work each day.

Florida man John Joyce, 83, has been cutting grass for residents for 8 years, but when his old truck broke down he was forced to push his mower between jobs.

St Petersburg couple Robert and Nikki Norton created a Go Fund Me page to help raise money for the 2004 Nissan King cab V8 truck.

“Today Nikki and I are asking you to help us raise some money to get a truck for John. His transmission went out and his engine block is damaged on his old truck and cannot be repaired,” the couple wrote online.

“John is an 83-year-old hard working man living on a fixed income and struggling to earn an honest living... At 83 he is still working! He is one of the kindest people Nikki and I have ever met and we need to help him.”

The Go Fund Me page raised more than $18,000 in one month to help Mr Joyce.

“I feel like a millionaire,” he told 10 News Tampa Bay when he received his new truck.
