'Disaster dog' strapped with camera combs through earthquake rubble

An Israeli "disaster dog" has provided a close-up look of the devastation from the recent earthquake that reduced much of the Nepalese capital Kathmandu to rubble, leaving thousands dead and tens of thousands homeless.

The rescue dog, part of a 250-strong Israeli Defence Force team sent to help in the wake of last Saturday's 7.8 magnitude earthquake, was strapped with a GoPro camera as it searched for the dead and wounded amongst Kathmandu's destroyed or severely damaged buildings.

At one point the rescue dog searches the upstairs room of a residential building and comes across what appears to be the remnants of a child's play room.

The Israel Defence Force uploaded the footage to its official Facebook page on Friday.

Over 6200 people are confirmed dead and tens of thousands injured as a result of the April 25 earthquake, the worst to hit Nepal in 80 years.

There are fears the final death toll could rise above 15,000.

Many have been left homeless and living in makeshift tents without access to running water or sanitation.
