US cops pull trapped man from burning car

Two US police officers have been awarded for their bravery after they smashed the window of a burning car to pull out a man trapped inside.

Joseph Trimboli and Eric Keyes arrived at the scene on Christmas morning in Florida last year to find heavy flames engulfing the back of the car and the driver inside with the door locked.

The sheriff deputies bang on the car door and yell at the driver to open up, with no response.

The fire quickly spreads inside the car but the officers bravely hold their ground, smashing the window and pulling the driver to safety.

The man was treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation and later expressed gratitude for his rescue.

The two officers were given Medal of Merit awards for their actions.

Police released video of the rescue, which was captured by a camera worn by one of the officers, earlier this week.
