Commentator thinks moon is a planet

I guess astronomy is not a mandatory subject at sports broadcasting school.

A TV baseball commentator has been widely mocked for his ignorance of celestial bodies by declaring that the moon is a planet.

Kansas City Royals announcer Rex Hudler was talking about the full moon over the stadium when he described it as "a beautiful planet".

After several seconds of silence his co-commentator Ryan Lefebvre corrected him.

"Well, it's a moon," Lefebvre said.

"It looks like a planet to me," Hudler replied.

After being corrected, Hudler joked that he might need to be "refreshed" at the stadium's "School Day".

"You know, we landed on the planet Moon in... well, anyway," Hudler said.

A planet is an object orbiting a star that is large enough to be rounded by its own gravity.

A moon is a celestial body that orbits a planet.
