A bungee jumper in Bolivia miraculously escaped serious injury after the rope failed to break her fall and she plunged into a river.

Video of Sunday's incident on a bridge in Florida province was taken by passer-by Shyrleny Cuchallo Ribera and begins with a bungee jump instructor checking the young woman's harness and rope.

She plunged 15m but instead of the rope breaking her fall and being propelled upwards she crashes into the river which was reported to be only a few centimetres deep.

Footage ends showing crew from the bungee jump company running to her in the water.

The young woman was transferred to a private clinic in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, where incredibly she was found to have no serious injuries.

A spokesman for the company said human error was the cause of the rope's malfunction
