Young UK woman murdered housemate, dismembered her with circular saw

A young UK woman has been jailed for at least 23 years after she killed and dismembered a housemate who spurned her sexual advances.

Gareeca Gordon, 28, stabbed Phoenix Netts, also 28, four times.

Ms Netts' phone showed internet searches like "how to fix punctured lung" and "can someone recover from getting stabbed" on the afternoon of April 16 last year.

Ms Netts would have survived if she had received prompt medical attention, a post-mortem revealed.

Instead Gordon bought a circular saw on Gumtree and cut Ms Netts to pieces.

Gordon then took a taxi from Birmingham to Gloucestershire to dump two large suitcases containing Ms Netts' remains.

Detective Chief Inspector John Turner described the case as "extremely distressing".

"As the investigation unfolded it became clear that Gordon had come up with an elaborate plan in order to try and hide her abhorrent actions," he said.

"She is truly the most callous, calculating and evil person I have ever dealt with."

When police were investigating a car for breaching COVID-19 restrictions, they came across Gordon with suitcases.

Officers then found Ms Netts' burnt and dismembered remains in the suitcases.

Detectives then retraced Gordon's steps to find the extraordinary efforts she went to in order to conceal her roommate's murder.

It included organising a waste disposal company to collect her possessions, carpet and a bed frame.

She also sent messages on Ms Netts' phone telling them she was fine and going back to London.

Gordon also used Ms Netts' phone to search for things like "does a dismembered body stink?" and "why do killers get caught?"

Ms Netts' family released a statement after Gordon's sentencing.

"Phoenix was entirely blameless," the family said.

"She was the victim of a senseless act of violence which ended her life at a young age."

Gordon murdered Ms Netts after she had refused her sexual advances.

Ms Netts then told Gordon she was moving back to London.
