Bali Nine final appeal bid rejected

Bali Nine drug dealers Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran appear finally doomed to face the firing squad after their last-ditch bid to have their case reviewed was rejected by the Indonesian government.

The duo had previously had their respective bids for clemency tossed out by Indonesian President Joko Widodo, who has taken a hard line on drug dealers since coming to office, despite campaigning on a platform of humanitarian reform.

Supporters of Chan and Sukumaran refused to give up hope, however, pointing to their records as models of rehabilitation.

The pair are likely to be executed in coming days or weeks.

They will be told about the failure of their appeal tomorrow.

Huge public support has been generated for the pair, with Australian celebrities including David Wenham and Cate Blanchett asking the Indonesian government to have mercy.

Sukumaran's grandmother also made a heartfelt public appeal at a candlelit vigil in Martin Place in Sydney last Thursday.

She spoke at the Music for Mercy event, where more than 1000 supporters gathered.

"I don’t ask for him to come home," she said.

"I only ask for him to live."

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has also pressed the Indonesian government to show clemency, reaffirming Australia's stance against the death penalty.
