Aussie held after incident on Bali flight

A drunk Australian is in custody after trying to enter the cockpit of a Virgin Australia flight from Brisbane to Bali.

Police were on stand-by when the Boeing 737-800 landed in Denpasar on Friday afternoon, after pilots reported an intoxicated, aggressive man was banging on the cockpit door.

Authorities named the man as Matt Christopher Lockley.

Virgin Australia's Bali airport manager, Heru Sudjatmiko, told Metro TV the flight crew stopped the 28-year-old man entering.

"He was then handcuffed and secured and placed at the back seat," he said.

Initial reports that there had been an attempted hijacking aboard the plane were a "miscommunication", he said.

"What happened was there was a drunk person ... too much alcohol consumption caused him to act aggressively."

The plane remains on the airport's southern apron and it's understood Denpasar's northern runway is functioning as normal.

Authorities say the plane's 139 passengers remain on the plane and are safe.

The airline's spokeswoman in Australia, who dismissed the hijacking reports, told AAP: "The aircraft landed safely and at no point was the safety of passengers in question."
