Apartment towers teeter on the brink following massive Mexican landslide

A pair of tower blocks in Mexico City are teetering on the brink of a fresh cliff face after the ground beneath them rushed away in a massive landslide overnight.

Incredibly no one was killed in the landslide, though as many as 15 vehicles were damaged when the ground suddenly collapsed near the apartment towers in Santa Fe.

Video of the incident, captured by a number of sources, shows thousands of tonnes of rock and earth suddenly plummet down the down the cliff.

Thankfully it is left for the viewer to imagine the scale of the human tragedy had the towers gone down with it.

Authorities say they had advised tenants of the buildings to find a new place to live for fear of the buildings' precarious location, adding that because property owners had built without permission, the inhabitants were living there illegally.

"The risky living conditions was something they had been notified of in 2007 when the buildings were built," the Daily Mail quotes Santa Fe councilmember Miguel Angel Salazar as saying.

"Fast-forward to now and the owners simply do not have permission to occupy the site."

The city's Civil Protection Agency is now monitoring the site, which is still unstable, with a telecommunications antenna in the area at risk of collapse.
