Alligator headbutts rescuer in escape attempt

An alligator caught roaming through a neighbourhood in the US has knocked a rescue officer out cold in a last-ditch effort to escape.

The incident, which was caught on video, caused quite a disturbance along a residential street in Ocoee, Florida, on Tuesday.

Video footage shows three Florida Fish and Wildlife officers putting the two-metre gator in the back of a ute.

The feisty, tied-up alligator lashed out and head-butted one of the officers.

He fell to the ground as police and another trapper worked to get the alligator back inside the truck.

A female officer was also hit with the alligator’s tail.

Neighbours say the alligator was walking through front yards before officers arrived.

It is unknown if the trapper sustained any injuries.

The alligator was eventually taken away.
