Afghan couple who named son Donald Trump face backlash

The parents of an Afghan boy who named their child Donald Trump say their family life is now ruined.

After his birth in September 2016 – the time his namesake was running for the White House – the child was named by his father, a fan of the tycoon-turned US President.

This Donald Trump is the third child of Jamila and Sayed Assadullah, from central Afghanistan, reports The New York Times.

Sayed became an admirer of the real estate mogul after reading his books and watching him on television.

He believed some of Trump’s ‘Midas touch’ in business would rub off on his offspring when he named his son after the controversial politician.

But instead it has proved a heavy burden for the family in the strict Islamic country.

Sayed said relatives were furious at his decision to give his son a non-Muslim name. The family were treated as outcasts in their village and had to move to a rental property in Kabul.

"They told me, ‘How you can select the name of an infidel for your son?’”

Although, the official naming of the young Donald Trump had been confidential Sayed believes government officials leaked documents in a move to shame the family.

A copy of the child’s official ID card was released to social media recently.
