Thugs throw Ukrainian politician into rubbish bin

Powered by

A Ukrainian politician has been thrown in a bin in a threatening encounter with anti-government thugs outside a Kiev's parliament building.

Vision of the incident shows Vitaly Zhuravskyi – a one-time advisor to the country's former pro-Russian president – walking calmly to the building as protesters swarm around him.

Suddenly, a man in a baseball cap lunches towards Mr Zhuravskyi from behind and grabs him by the waist. He's joined by two other men who grab the politician from either side.

The trio then swiftly pull Mr Zhuravskyi towards a large open bin and toss him inside head first.

As the stunned politician attempts to get to his feet one of the men places their hand on his head and pushes him back down amongst the rubbish.

"I'm doing my job," Mr Zhuravskyi can be heard shouting at one point.

"You are doing your job? But we live in this country and look at the ongoing bloodshed," one of the activists replies.

"Honour to Ukraine! Honour to the heroes! Who will be the next? Let's take him to his car."

After his initial struggle, the politician eventually manages to make his way out of the bin.

Activists have accused Mr Zhuravskyi of authorising a controversial defamation law, which journalists said was restricting the country's media freedom.
