Todd Woodbridge breaks major rule as two Aussie legends risk thousands for charity
Celebrating 70 years of TV on Nine, Tipping Point welcomed three celebrity pairings going head-to-head for a charity of their choice. But one team risked everything.
Getaway hosts Catriona Rowntree and Jules Lund, McLeod’s Daughters stars Bridie Carter and Lisa Chappell, and Sale of the Century hosts Glen Ridge and Nicky Buckley all put their knowledge to the test. Yet things didn’t go quite to plan.
By this point, host Todd Woodbridge was ready to step in. Nine
Ridge and Buckley were the first team out falling victim to the quick fire round, walking away with $2,500 for The Power in You Project.
Next on the chopping block were Carter and Chappell, leaving with $4,200 for their chosen charity, Dolly’s Dream, plus a $3,000 mystery prize.
Then, it was all up to Rowntree and Lund, looking to raise as much money as possible for The Reach Foundation.
The duo racked up a whopping $17,700, when host Todd Woodbridge stepped in, with the chance to risk it all for the chance to win a life-changing $70,000 in the final temptation round.
The Getaway duo would have to give up thousands to be in with a chance to take home the major prize for their charity. On offer? Just five silver counters.
With plenty of hosting experience under his belt, Ridge suggested that Woodbridge sweeten the deal.
“Instead of giving five goes, I’d give seven goes,” he shouted from the audience.

Woodbridge met him halfway giving the pair an extra counter and sealing the deal for the heart-racing jackpot round.
Tensions were high as Rowntree and Lund risked it all. The crowd cheered but in a gut-wrenching moment, their risk didn’t pay off and the duo lost it all.

“That was horrible and I blame myself,” said Jules, but Catriona didn’t let him take the fall alone.
It was a hard watch for Woodbridge who admitted he felt “guilty” of robbing Reach the $17,700. So guilty, he was willing to break one major Tipping Point rule.
“Well, I think one of the important things about today is that we’re playing for charity,” he teased.
“It was well worth having a go because we’re still going to give you that $17,700!”

Relief washed over the duo as they joked their friendship had been saved and explained just how important this money would be to the Reach Foundation.
“It’s an extraordinary amount, and it will be able to help young people that come from disadvantaged backgrounds, actually experience some incredible work and allowing us to go into areas we may not have been able to afford previously,” Lund beamed.
