Things go from bad to horrendous for Jason and Sarah

It’s no secret it’s been a tough run for Sarah and Jason so far this season. They’ve had multiple warnings about their budget throughout the season and even an intervention from Scott Cam and his expert, also named Sarah, where they mapped out a possible plan to keep them on track and in shape to finish. This was followed up by a second “wake up” call from Scotty, where he pointed out they were meant to have been saving along the way and instead, they are still spending more than they have. Put simply, their financial situation is dire.

The pair now have the biggest gamble ever to make. Should they go all out on this week’s room and try to win the money… or play it safe and just try to finish?

Sarah’s decision is clear. “I am not going to stress about it,” she says simply. “If we don’t finish, we don’t finish. I am more focused on getting the job done properly than getting it done in a rush.”

Only problem is “rush” and “The Block” tend to go hand in hand. The Block is no ordinary build – it’s building on steroids.

It’s also a risky decision because without room wins, they simply won’t get access to the money they so desperately need. “You can’t get to the end without a win,” Foreman Dan explains when Jason tells him that he is simply focused on completing the build overall.

“You seem to be falling behind… a lot,” observes Keith, as he and Dan check in on Jason’s progress. The foremen are clearly concerned. “I’m not gonna lose sleep over it,” says Jason. “You’re just going to throw this week then?” Keith asks dubiously. “We are six weeks in and you haven’t had a win. You need that money mate.”

“We don’t care,” Sarah later tells a tradesman who is asking for guidance. “I think the chance of finishing this week is not looking too hopeful. And with our measly budget it’s very unlikely we would win anyway, even if we threw everything we could at this room.”

“The question is,” Jason adds. “When do you draw a line in the sand? … There’s no point killing ourselves over it.”

“I don’t think we’re going to finish, and I don’t even care,” finishes Sarah.

It’s clear the fight has gone out of Sarah and Jason. Never before has any team dropped out of contention for Room Reveal win so early in the week and Scott Cam has a plan to turn things around.

Sarah is demoralised from the start, labelling the assistance as “budget bashing”, but Scott and Savvy Sarah are determined to deliver a dose of hope to the situation.

The Block wants them to finish - and finish competitively. Scott challenges them; “It’s sorta two strikes now and if you go to the third strike, it’s looking dire. … It’s just a matter of sticking to these new numbers and this new budget.”

The duo has admitted they are overwhelmed…  but will this latest help give them the motivational boost they need to get back on track? We hope so.
