Episode 38 recap: Team teases controversial move to guarantee they win The Block as neighbour feud heats up

We have hit a major Block milestone – landscaping!

But we can’t head outside until we wrap up the big feelings after last night’s judging, which earned Courtney and Sev a perfect score and had Lisa lose her cool over what she believes is favouritism from the judges.

To be fair, a McFlurry always helps. Nine

Add to that Jolene’s annoyance that they got 10s for a redo room that copied the elements of hers and well, the House 4 duo don’t exactly get the warmest reception back at the share house.

But how can they judge without seeing the rooms for themselves … thank the Block gods for Open for Inspections.

“How do you get a 10 when your ceiling looks like that?” Jolene says in, you guessed it, House 4.

She’s not the only one to notice. Rick says he was docked for similar issues, while Lisa and Rosco also find incomplete caulking.

Then we get our second copycat claim: Chantel reckons Lisa’s gone and ripped off her guest suite bedroom, right down to the same curvy bedhead and orchids on the bedside table.

This week is officially Outdoor Terrace and Pool Week, which means there are five enormous decks to build.

And not everyone is flush with enough cash to do it.

Courtney and Sev are flush with cash, which pleases their landscaper Troy Lovett, but others are counting pennies.

Luckily, Scott Cam is here with a lifeline: a $50,000 budget boost for each team.

That means Lisa and Rosco can actually use a landscaper! Hooray!

OK, money woes are over. How about some neighbours-at-war fun?

Adam and Jolene are still not seeing eye to eye with Chantel and Wyatt, so they’ve devised a plan to make things worse.

They are going to block off the side of House 1, which is currently the only access Chantel, Wyatt and their tradies have to House 2’s front yard without traipsing all the way through the house.

Plotting! Nine

Courtney and Sev head off for their 400th winners’ dinner, and you know what that means.

Share house “family dinner”, with a side of feuds!

Chantel and Wyatt are on cooking duty, which I guess means no washing-up?! But it also means sitting down around the table with people who don’t like them.

Afterwards, they get up to go to the gym and it takes 0.2 seconds for conversation to turn to their connection to Gold Coast businessman Travers “Candyman” Beynon.

Tayla is SHOOK. Nine

But it turns out they haven’t actually left yet.

Tayla decides to just ask them outright if the Candyman plans to buy their house, so Chantel and Wyatt play along.

Trololololol. Nine

“We are going to go last at auction so he’s just going to pay $1 more,” Wyatt says.

“So, we’ll win,” Chantel adds.

That is some expert-level trolling. Respect.

The next morning, everyone seems to have given up on their budget estimates – except Lisa.

She and Rosco have won the $10,000 budget prize three times and are hoping to be kept afloat with a fourth, thanks to her secret hack.

“You always overestimate because things always go wrong and then at the very end of the week, I get all my invoices, then Saturday from noon onwards I go to the shops and I spend what I have left, to the cent,” she says.

OK, GENIUS.

Meanwhile, Courtney’s going to even greater lengths, with plans to commit just a light bit of fraud.

After the day winds down, Scotty announces an athletics carnival challenge.

Wyatt’s excited about the sport, Tayla’s excited about the costumes, no one else is excited about anything.

They arrive at the location and before the public embarrassment, Scotty surprises them with what is ALWAYS on the best moments on The Block – family reunions!

Cue the tears!

Tomorrow night, another special guest … Hamish Blake?

Honestly, at this point, why not? Catch you there!
