Exclusive: Sonny and Alicia 'stoked' with $120k win after house sells immediately after competitors home passes in

EXCLUSIVE: Sonny and Alicia are "stoked" to go home with $120,000 after their home was purchased at The Block Auction just after competitors Emma and Ben's passed in.

Their sale was all thanks to a clever, and sometimes controversial, strategy known as a vendor bid.

A vendor bid is a bid made by the auctioneer on behalf of the vendors to move the auction forward and signal the seller's minimum sale price.

Sonny and Alicia's auctioneer set the tone with a vendor bid of $3,050,000. Buyers agent Frank Valentic countered that offer with a bid of $3,060,000 and the property was sold!

"We're so happy. We saw what's happened through the day and it's been a rough ride. So to have our house sold and to walk away with $120,000 and a new car, I mean today is a great result," Alicia told 9Entertainment in an exclusive video you can watch above.

Sonny admitted he was glad to finally "put a line on the end of this process and not have to negotiate any further".

The couple were at an advantage after having $50,000 taken off their reserve price as a reward for winning the final Room Reveal.

Sonny was feeling emotional saying: "I've done so well not to cry my little eyes out today. I've cried more for other people than I have for myself."

As a father of three, husband and business owner, Sonny said the $120,000 would do a lot for their family.

"For us, to earn $120,000 and to put that away, in a business that's really hard. This is tax free and it's in our bank," he said.

"We're gonna go home and continue to renovate our house and try and move our kids in closer to town for a better life for them."

Sonny and Alicia credited their trades and real estate agents with getting them across the line and were looking forward to celebrating.

The Queensland parents were happy to leave with their head held high.

"It's a long journey and it's great to finish it off with a blast," they concluded.
