'I was a mess': Yellowstone star Luke Grimes reveals major clue about series' 'heartbreaking' final episode

The world hasn't stopped watching since Yellowstone's final ever episodes premiered.

And with only three more episodes left, actor Luke Grimes admitted the most "heartbreaking" scenes are yet to come.

The only place you can stream every episode of Yellowstone is on Stan.

Speaking to TVLine this week, Grimes, 40, said he had no idea how the story was going to end.

He waited until "the very last second" to read the script for Season 5's finale episode. And when he did, he became very emotional.

"I was a mess," he told the publication.

"It's beautiful. It's profound. It's heartbreaking," said Grimes of Yellowstone's final moments.

"[Fans] won't feel like they've wasted their time for the past six years."

Grimes plays youngest son Kayce Dutton in the hit-drama series. His character Kayce wants to get to the bottom of his father's death.

Now ruled as a homicide, both Kayce and sister Beth (Kelly Reilly) have their suspicions on who could be behind John Dutton's (Kevin Costner's) murder.

Beth's biggest suspect is their own brother Jamie (Wes Bentley), who she's personally declared war on.

But will Jamie meet his demise?

Speaking to 9Entertainment ahead of the mid-season premiere, Grimes explained the finale leans into loss and the end – in a way that will leave viewers satisfied.

"In a beautiful way, though," he added.

"It's going to make you feel all the right things you want to feel in the finale episode of the show you've loved for so long."

Saying goodbye to Yellowstone however has been bittersweet for the star.

"It's a little sad though that this is the last hoorah, this is the last time we'll all be doing this together so [I'm] kind of processing that at the same time," Grimes added.

"I remember the day we wrapped was very emotional. Driving home that day was very emotional just thinking that's the last time I'm going to get in my truck and drive home from the Yellowstone set.

"I've been doing that for seven years and it's over now."
