Nicole Grant
Nicole Grant's connection to RMHC started when her family in Toronto stayed at Ronald McDonald House on and off for over 18 years, so in 2008 when she walked past Herston House she jumped at the chance to give back.
Growing up surrounded by community, her parents lived and breathed volunteer work, so it was front and centre in Nicole's mind from the get go. Leaving Toronto with a yearning to explore the world, Nicole found a small advertisement for a sailing boat on a corkboard, and fell in love with the skipper.
Settling in Brisbane, Nicole now works as a remedial massage therapist, and for the last 15 years has donated her time and skills to families in need. "Every person I meet is so grateful and humble. It is a great honour to provide some temporary care to those who cannot even think of themselves while their family is in need.
It only takes a hand on a shoulder, a hand squeeze, or even better, a meaningful hug." Now happily living life on a houseboat, calling the Brisbane River home alongside her loving family, Nicole can't imagine life any other way.
