Geoff Mercer first stepped onto Great Keppel Island when he was 25 years old. Originally from Hobart, he arrived via a 20-seater bus that he drove from Cairns and after finding a special connection to the island, never really looked back.
Over this time, he has helped shape the tourism industry on the island, initially with an 18-35s party-style retreat – even building the brickwork and pathways himself. But as he's aged, so have his clients and he now runs a modest, clean and quiet retreat where he encourages his guests to get back to nature, switch off and enjoy what the island has to offer.
