Mark "Duck" Duckworth is the Festival Director of Blues on Broadbeach, one of Australia's largest free music festivals, celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2026.
A lifelong music fan, Duck spent his youth in bands and digging through records. For him, music wasn't just entertainment, it was the spark that shaped his sense of identity and possibility. As he got older, Duck realised his calling wasn't to be the one on stage, but to build the stage.

He knew how difficult it was for local musicians to get a real shot, so he built Blues on Broadbeach, a place where local musicians share the stage with international headliners to give them a chance in this industry. It is a rare space where local musicians don't just watch their heroes, they stand beside them.
Still hands on, Duck scours record stores and late-night gigs for the next artist who deserves a chance. For him, the legacy isn't applause, it's access. It's giving musicians a chance to dream big without having to leave the Gold Coast. After 25 years, the festival proves that sometimes the biggest impact in music happens behind the scenes.
