Benetta Ganiatsos has Greek Dancing in her blood. At the first ever Panyiri in 1976, a group of dancers were hired and flown up from Sydney to perform for the Brisbane audience. But Benetta's mum Helen Vafias didn't see why they couldn't form the group themselves in Brisbane.

The Hellenic Dancers of St George, Brisbane were formed, dances were learnt, traditional clothes were hand made, and from 1977 onwards the group has been performing at every Paniyiri.
Having learnt from her mum and taken the lead, Benetta danced for years on the biggest stage a Greek can dance on, but now has stepped to the side to allow the next generation to come through and watch as her kids take the stage for the 50th year or the festival.
