Sarah and Telv: The perfect couple crack into smithereens

Maybe anyone who’s had their partner ignore them for a phone can relate. Maybe you think it’s a massive overreaction. Pick a side in Sarah and Telv’s massive – and massively awkward – argument.

As Telv chuckled about a Snapchat, Sarah cracked it. “We’re in an experiment for us to be together and not for you to be on snapchat all the time,” Sarah sniped. “You’re not engrossed in what’s happening with us.”

For his part, Telv failed to see how a temporary focus on Snapchat meant he was disinterested in Sarah or the relationship.

The pair then shut down and totally stopped talking to one another. “We have our family coming here tonight, so it’s going to be pretty awkward if we’re not talking,” conceded Telv, of the planned family reunion.

He didn’t. The families both arrived and things were frosty, to say the least.

Before entering the apartment, Telv explained to his family the pair weren’t talking. His stepfather assured him they would remain neutral and respectful, while his Mum told him he and Sarah would work things out.

Exasperated, she got up from the table and made her way, apologising, to the bathroom. Her muffled sobs could be immediately heard.

The family around the table looked mortified and distressed. “Well, this has turned very uncomfortable,” Telv’s stepfather finally said, breaking the tension and allowing everyone to instantly start talking.

“The boys care for their sister…” added Telv’s stepfather. 
“I agree…” said Telv’s sister.

“You guys are very lovely people,” rushed Sarah’s brother.  “We think the world of you as well.”

Turning to Telv, her brother added: “I actually like you, mate. You seem like a great guy. And I don’t say that about many guys… a few of the other blokes she’s had, they’re f**king duds.”

At that, Telv cracked a tiny smile.

“You seem like a cool guy,” said her brother, adding that the experiment was extremely intense, and it was “actually pretty admirable” that it had taken a full five weeks before any cracks had appeared in the relationship.

“We’ve been going really good,” Telv admitted, explaining it was the couple’s first fight. “It wasn’t over much, but obviously she’s very upset about it.

“I’m not gonna take a backwards step because I’ve done nothing wrong and she feels like I am in the wrong … but I just didn’t want to sort it out in front of you guys.”

Telv’s brother leapt in, explaining the novelty aspect of the relationship was gone and the pair were in a real, caring relationship. “If I didn’t think that you cared about her, and that there was actually something there, I would have told you to f**k off.”

Sarah’s brother checked he wasn’t overstepping with Telv’s family, who encouraged him to continue. “If you care for someone, you’re gonna work it out,” he said frankly. “You’ve gotta just put your pride aside and just listen to what she has to say.”

Telv’s Mum nodded as Sarah’s brother added, “If you care about her, there’s nothing that will stop you from trying to make her feel good. Compromise is a part of relationships.

“Here I’m trying to be Dr Phil!” he laughed as everyone nodded their approval and Telv said, “That’s the best advice I’ve ever had.”

He got up and went to see Sarah, opening the bathroom door to find her crying. “Don’t not talk to me,” he began. “That’s why we’re still here and why we’re getting along so well.”

Sarah confronted Telv about whether he was fully invested and Telv challenged her about being able to go to the gym, saying it was his personal time. Things fired up further and she stormed out of the bathroom.

“Is this something I’ll have to deal with forever? There’s no way I want to be with a partner who literally blows up over nothing,” Telv said. “Right now, I am almost ready to give up. [It’s the first time I’ve ever actually doubted wanting to be with her.

“If we can’t work it out, that’s it.”

Is it just us, or does anyone else wonder what – and how good - that original Snapchat was?
