MAFS' Martha Kalifatidis reveals 'weird' side effect of her difficult pregnancy on Kyle and Jackie O show

The excitement hasn't worn off that Married At First Sight's Martha Kalifatidis and Michael Brunelli are having a baby!

Martha and Michael announced the news in a joint video post on Instagram and she spilled more about her difficult pregnancy journey on KISS FM's Kyle & Jackie O show.

It hasn't been smooth sailing for the reality star, who was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) five weeks into her pregnancy.

Kyle and Jackie O asked Martha how she was dealing with her illness and how long it would last for.

"They really don't have any answers for me I just have to take every day as it comes," Martha admitted.

"I've started these new meds that my obstetrician gave me about a week ago and they've been amazing.

"Before that I was taking so many pills and nothing was helping at all."

The mum-to-be confirmed that she's almost four months along and revealed that HG left her bed ridden for the first two months of her pregnancy.

"It's like you've got gastro, you're hungover and you're on a boat," Martha said.

Jackie O speculated that Martha's sickness might mean she's having a boy, although she said "it could be an old wives' tale".

"I've actually heard that it's related to girls," Martha said.

Although Martha's guess was just as good as Jackie O's.

The MAFS star revealed that her and Michael "do have the sex of the baby but just haven't checked it yet."

The 34-year-old also shared that she's been too sick to even give baby names a thought and praised her fiancé for being a "saint" throughout the process.

Martha also revealed that she's experienced a bizarre side effect of HG.

"Due to losing so much weight so drastically and just being so malnourished, I've literally grown like a layer of fur all over my body, it's disgusting," she laughed.

"It's so weird because I've had my whole body lasered and I haven't had any hair for years and all of a sudden I'm like a marsupial."

Following the announcement, Martha and Michael were flooded with congratulatory messages and words of advice from other mothers who'd also experienced HG.

Martha took to her Instagram stories to thank her friends and followers for their support.

"I love you guys. Thank you for all the love particularly to those of you sharing all your stories," she wrote.

"It really helps to hear from other people with similar experiences. Especially because I've only ever really heard stories or seen women feeling and looking fab during pregnancy.

"I'm off to bed, night time is so grim.

"Again thank you, it's been such a relief to get it off my chest. Good night!"

One follower shared her own experience with HG in the comment section.

"I had HG this year too! My third pregnancy. Nothing worked for me. I had it until week 20! Hope u feel better soon," they wrote.

"I still have it, and some days are worse than others but my new meds are amazing. It is really rough, I didn't even know HG existed so it was a shock but we are getting through it," Martha replied.

Some friends and followers were already speculating the gender of the baby.

"I always thought they'd have a boy! But considering how sick she is it must be a girl," one follower guessed.

"Congratulations guys!!! Can't wait to meet him 🙌🏼," friend and Martha's engagement ring designer Armarns Jewellery commented.

But Michael and Martha were quick to clear up any confusion.

"Haha he is just guessing. We don't know what we are having yet," Martha clarified

"For the record, we don't know the gender. We haven't opened the envelope yet 😅," Michael also chimed in.
