Each and every year we see the Married At First Sight Photo Ranking task unfold before our eyes with some very confronting results.
The premise is seemingly simple: given photos of each of the brides and grooms in the experiment, the participants are asked to rank them in order of attractiveness – including their own partner.

Considering Juliette and Joel were only communicating through a door earlier in the day, getting them in the same room to do the Photo Ranking task was a massive step in the right direction.
But things quickly unravelled when Juliette ranked Joel fourth, or fourth-last depending on whether you're a glass half-full or half-empty person ...

Juliette said Joel's attractiveness rank was "mainly about [she] feels towards [him]".
It wasn't just the vibes that were off, Juliette said Joel was categorically not her type.
"My type is someone more my age," Juliette, 27, said.
With Joel being only four years older at 31, he felt it was a "dig" about his grey hair.
But Juliette certainly hadn't knocked Joel's confidence.
"I've got a silver fox look and that's what makes me unique and that's what makes me attractive," he told cameras.

Joel felt it was "a shame" that Juliette wasn't attracted to him, but understood sometimes that's the way the cookie crumbles.
That didn't mean he was going to take the high road when it came time to rank Juliette.
He wanted to give her a taste of her own medicine.
"Juliette's been hurting my feelings and telling me I'm unattractive. We'll see where she ranks but she's not first," he warned cameras.

Joel placed Juliette third, which he cheekily noted was higher than where she had ranked him.
He thought it was all just banter but it certainly rubbed Juliette the wrong way ...

"I didn't think he would manage to piss me off anymore but the way he went about it was so theatrical and performative.
"It's like he's trying to antagonise me!"
Mel and Luke | Season 13
While some couples were coming in hot ahead of Revelations Week, Mel and Luke were ice cold.
When it came time for Luke to rank his wife among the other brides, the groom planned to "stick true" to how he really felt.
To Mel's "surprise" Luke placed her first.

"I'm in this experiment with you and I haven't thought of any of the other girls in that kind of light," Luke explained to her.
"It was an easy one to do."
With a "nervous" laugh, it was Mel's turn to rank Luke.
She prefaced her decision by saying she wanted to be "truthful to the task" .
"So I won't lie," she said.

She mentioned that Danny was her usual type, and Grayson was basically her dream type. Ouch.
Then came the moment of truth.
Mel admitted she did find Luke attractive and thought he had the physique of a "Greek god".
"But I want to be true to myself… So I've put you just here... A close second though."

Luke was defeated.
"That just knocks me down even further," he reacted to cameras.
"Right now, I feel quite… massively underconfident if that's even a word."
