The cost of a night out with the boys used to just be a headache the next day.

But now? It could cost a lot more.

Former Married At First Sight bride Evelyn Ellis shared the funny (and very expensive) cost of partner Duncan James' boys' night – which left him sleeping the day away while unknowingly racking up a huge credit card bill.

"Collecting my 'boys' night' tax,'" she began a video, showing her with his card while he was in bed none the wiser.

She humorously showed the total price of her trip accumulate with each stop, including an impressive $756 spent in Mecca and $314 in Victoria's Secret.

Plus, there were a couple of quick additions as she enjoyed sushi for lunch ... and it was all courtesy of sleepy Duncan's American Express.

"All because I didn't get taken for my walkie!" she joked.

Later, once he got out of bed, Evelyn surprised Duncan with her receipts – and his face said it all.

"My accountant never told me about this tax!? 😤" one fan said.

Evelyn replied: "In clause 2.5 it states that: boys' night tax refers to the hidden cost, extra money spent, or unspoken social obligation incurred when a man goes out with his friends".

Evelyn's video plays into a couple of humorous TikTok trends, with "boyfriend tax" usually referring to men having to share their food or hoodie as "tax" in a relationship.

There is also a "woman tax" trend, where men give their partner money to use on things like getting her nails done, hair dyed or clothes shopping, to offset or compensate for the cost of being a woman – like mental load, monthly periods, pregnancy and childbirth.
