In her inspiring message, Mel encouraged us all to not let life's "judgements and opinions" hold you back.

"I think it's important that we support each other, that we empower each other, that we don't compete with each other," Mel began.

"That we give other women the opportunity to shine, just like we do, and that does not take away any of our power."

Wednesday's episode also began with an emotional tribute from Mel's dear friend and fellow MAFS expert John Aiken.

He remembered Mel as "someone who lights up a room", while looking back at their "joyous" time on set.

"She was a fighter, a leader, she was an inspiration. Never complained, just rolled her sleeves up and got on with things.

"She's someone that meant to much to all of us and it's not fair."

Speaking to 9News ahead of the episode, John called Mel's death "tragic".

"It's happened so quickly. We're all reeling because we felt like Mel was going to fight this as she is such a trooper and someone with such fight about her.

"So really, I was over here doing MAFS UK and keeping her seat warm, that was the idea, that she would recover and come back... and now, we've lost her."

John recalled his last visit with Mel and her husband Gareth Brisbane last week.

"I got about three hours with her," he shared. "Then we had to give her time to rest and I was able to say that I loved her and that she meant the world to me."

The news of Mel's passing came just 11 days after the psychologist told fans her colon cancer had spread to her brain and there was "nothing further [doctors] can do".

Mel first shared she'd been diagnosed with colon cancer in December 2023.

She spent much of 2024 undergoing chemotherapy and treatment while also shooting both MAFS UK and Australia back-to-back.

Then, in mid-March 2026, two years after her initial diagnosis, Mel revealed she'd received devastating news that she'd reached the end of the line with respect to treatment, after the disease had spread.

Gareth Brisbane announced the news of his wife's death and described Mel as "an incredible mum, role model, and soulmate".

"In her final moments, when I thought cancer had taken away her ability to speak, she ushered me closer and whispered a message for Maddie and me that will sustain me for the rest of my life.

"It took all of her remaining strength, and that gesture summed up our wee Melsie perfectly. Even then, her only thought was for Maddie and me."

In the lengthy statement, he went on to praise that his wife became "a new mum and a TV star at 42 — and nailed both" and the brave way she faced cancer head-on in her early 50s.

"This is a woman who, through two years of chemotherapy, when she could barely lift her head from the pillow, never complained and never stopped showing courage, grace, compassion and empathy, and never missed a day of filming," he said.

"Life can be beautiful, and life can be incredibly cruel. But ultimately, life is fleeting, fragile, and tomorrow is promised to no one. If you can do anything to honour Mel, please live life to the full, love your people well, and try not to sweat the small stuff."
