EXCLUSIVE: Married At First Sight's Grayson said he should have seen Julia's break-up coming earlier considering their off-camera relationship, or rather lack thereof.

In Tuesday night's episode, Julia tried to let down Grayson gently by reading him a letter saying she could not develop a connection because there was no "burning desire".

Speaking to 9Entertainment, Grayson said he simply never got a chance to develop a relationship with Julia because "she wasn't present".

"Look, Jules, she wasn't around much at all in the relationship. Off camera I never saw her, I never got a chance to hang out and go for a coffee with her she just sort of disappeared," he explained.

He said that soon after Julia read out the letter "she moved out, packed up and left".

"It took be back to that time and it's never easy. If anyone has ever had to break up with someone, it's not fun," she said.

"It's not like there are no feelings involved on your end. It's really, really hard. You're hoping you're making the right decision, you're worried about hurting someone."

Julia said watching MAFS back had made a pattern she and Grayson struggled with now obvious.

"When Grayson and I were interacting on his end he wasn't really able to express to me his needs," she said.

"Saying 'everything's fine', 'I'm alright', 'no, I'm good' and then finding out later when I watched the voxy [interview] that there were a lot of things he wasn't happy about.

"I wish he had been more open and honest with me in the moment because then we could've tried to rectify those things."
