EXCLUSIVE: Married At First Sight groom Timothy knows that Homestay Week "wasn't [his] finest week" in the experiment.

After all the progress they'd made, it was tough to see Lucinda and Timothy preparing to enter the Dinner Party solo rather than together.

The pair hadn't seen each other since Timothy stormed out of a Homestays date and Lucinda packed her bags.

In an interview with 9Entertainment, Timothy explained the emotional toll of the experiment finally got the better of him.

"By the time I went to Homestays we were 11 weeks in. I don't know too many guys who talk about their feelings every single day for 11 weeks," he said.

"You do a therapy session and you need a couple of hours of sleep, imagine doing 11 weeks of it."

Reflecting at the Dinner Party on their time together, Lucinda said: "Tim's a handsome fella, he's got good values but unfortunately there's another aspect that I don't think he's developed inside himself, emotional maturity."

The experts and the other brides and grooms let out a disappointed gasp as Lucinda walked through the sliding doors on her own.

"I am slightly devastated," expert Alessandra Rampolla admitted.

Lucinda told the other brides that Homestays "wasn't great" as Timothy's walls went up and she "felt unwelcome".

Timothy told 9Entertainment the week made him reflect on their differences.

"Lu came into it just ready to party, her family's down here, and we were just in different spots. We attack things differently, we think about things differently and I just needed some time to recharge."

But as always, there was hope on the horizon.

It wasn't long before Timothy whisked Lucinda away for a one-on-one chat. Timothy's objective? To apologise for how their Homestays visit played out.

The groom definitely had his regrets about how he and Lucinda parted ways at Homestays.

"I could have just said 'look, I'm not feeling it' or whatever. I could have handled it so differently," Timothy told 9Entertainment.

"So of course in retrospect I wanted to say sorry for walking off and blowing up. I was just emotionally spent."

At the Dinner Party, Lucinda admitted she "walked away from Homestays feeling pretty disappointed and cross".

"If someone doesn't let me in, I don't know where to go from there I really don't."
