‘Here’s to standing up for yourself’

An exhausted Gab looked extremely relieved and happy to see friendly faces as she hugged her friends hello. As they gathered around and opened a bottle of wine, Gabrielle piped up, “We only need four glasses”.

Her friends looked stunned. “So, is this just a girls’ get together?” asked one. As Gab nodded, her friend immediately launched into the offensive.

“It’s quite shocking actually – because that’s really bad behaviour. He couldn’t even sit here for two hours and chat with us and say hello?” she questioned. “We’re all busy, we’ve all got schedules, we’re all doing things, so really…?”

The same friend expressed her anger later. “I am livid – absolutely livid that he is not staying here of the night because I don’t think he should be leaving her alone under any circumstances and I don’t care what the excuse is, I don’t care what the words are, he should have been here tonight.”

“We should give this ghost a name,” laughed Gab. “Barry. Should we call him Barry?”

“Maybe we should call it Nasser,” suggested a friend.

“Well, he’s a ghost at the moment,” laughed Gab in agreement.
