Exclusive: Love Island's executive producers reveal how the 2022 Islanders were cast

Have you ever wondered how an Islander is cast on Love Island Australia each year?

Luckily for you, we've got the intel on what really goes down during casting. Love Island Season 1 star Josh Moss sat down with two of the show's executive producers to find out all the juicy details, which you can watch in the exclusive video above.

Josh had a chat with Alex Mavroidakis and Caroline Williams, two of the masterminds behind the popular dating show.

"How many people do they see in casting and what are you looking for in the auditions?" Josh asked.

"We get thousands of applications… We have a team of casting producers that go through the applications… they look at photos, their Instagram, their socials... They look at everything! From there we are culling thousands down to probably 300," Alex revealed.

"As to what we're looking for, it's a very hard question because you only know when they're in front of you."

Caroline elaborated on the comment, admitting it's about the impression they leave in the audition room.

"As soon as someone walks in the room you have a pretty good idea, there's charisma, charm. It's a personality that you are drawn to either because you love them or you hate them," she explained.

The executive producers added it's also about finding the perfect balance of "yin and yang", as they don't want 10 of the same personalities in the one Villa.

"You need people that will be open to lots of different types of personalities as well, so you have to have lots of different types of personalities in the Villa," Caroline said.

There's also the "superficial" side of things as well, where Alex admitted you "can't have six blondes... six brunettes," you need to find the perfect, diverse balance of people.

As for what makes "the perfect Islander" Caroline put it simply.

"You have to be open to love, willing to put your heart on the line, you have to be funny as f--k and just open to having the summer of your dreams," she said.
