Lincoln Lewis checks out a little corner of Queensland known as the Granite Belt

Often when we think of Queensland, we imagine golden beaches, lush rainforests and theme parks.

What we don't think about is the high country and snow! In a little corner of Queensland known as the Granite Belt, which is about 1000 metres above sea level, it has actually been known to snow!

Lincoln Lewis checked out Stanthorpe, the beating heart of the area.

Highlights: 

Stanthorpe is the 'Big Apple' of Queensland – in fact about 90% of all Queensland apples are grown here in the cool microclimate. The region is also known for its wineries, and other produce including berries, stone fruit, olives and figs. 

It's a great place for a romantic weekend away or an adventurous camping trip. There are many hikes through Girraween National Park, where prehistoric granite outcrops and massive precariously balanced boulders meet wildflower displays in spring. Lincoln chose the easy 1.6km circuit to one of the park's most popular sites - the Granite Arch. 

When you visit the region, you should really plan to eat and drink your way around this foodie paradise. Lincoln followed his nose to Sutton's Juice Factory, Cidery and Café. Owners Ros and David Sutton produce apple juice, apple cider, and even apple butter, but Lincoln was only there for one thing – their famous apple pie! Ros says she makes the pies the good old fashioned way with freshly cooked apples, lemon, sugar, spice and a lot of love. Served with their apple cider ice-cream, apple syrup and whipped cream – Lincoln was in heaven! Yum! 

There are plenty of places to stay in the area, Lincoln's pick was Alure Stanthorpe in their 5 star African safari tent – this is next level glamping. Inside the tent is a king size four poster bed, a fireplace, TV, kitchen with a welcome hamper, laundry, and bathroom with 2 sinks and a massive shower. The best bit though – a private outdoor heated spa - just the place to unwind with a glass of local wine and the best view of the Milky Way.
