Lincoln Lewis finds her new favourite destination in Philippine paradise Pamilacan
Lincoln Lewis discovered the true meaning of 'island time' on a recent trip to the Philippines. He spent a relaxing day exploring above and below the water on a remote paradise renowned for fantastic snorkelling, white sandy beaches and a distinct lack of crowds.

Highlights:
A 1.5 hour flight south of the Philippine capital of Manila lands you on the vibrant island of Bohol, but for a true taste of island paradise, Lincoln took a one hour boat ride from there to Pamilacan. The journey to the tranquil island was on a motorised traditional outrigger and while the tropical surroundings above the water looked beautiful, Pamilacan is best known for the world that exists beneath the surface. Lincoln couldn't wait to get amongst it!
The island's northwest side is home to a designated marine sanctuary, a magnificent playground for sea life with stunning colourful corals. Lincoln found the snorkeling there to be a heart-warming experience, hanging out with the island's most beloved locals, the sea turtles, who embody the slow-paced ethos of island time - swimming, eating, and chilling according to their own rules!
Lincoln reckons there's no better way to cap off a big swim than with a big feed. Luckily his day trip included a feast of local delicacies, including grilled jackfish, caught that morning, and a Bohol specialty cake made with cassava, coconut and purple yam.
After lunch, a wander through Pamilacan village gave Lincoln a low-key glimpse into a much simpler way of life revolving around community. At the centre, the deep well, is a crucial source for water used for cleaning and washing, that is supplemented by buying water supplies from the mainland during dry spells. The island also carries a rich history, evident in the ruins of a 200 year old Spanish fort where the watch tower served as an early warning system against pirate raids.
The warm turquoise water was so inviting, Lincoln couldn't stay on land for too long. He canoed out over the reef and jumped back in for more snorkeling among the fish and turtles.
With over seven thousand islands to choose from, the Philippines promises endless discovery, but Pamilacan, with its stunning blue waters and gentle pace of life, might just be Lincoln's new favourite holiday destination.
