Highlights:

San José del Cabo is a laid-back city on the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California Sur. Jason checked into his stunning accommodation, the Viceroy Hotel, which hugs the beautiful Baja coastline. The Ocean-View King Room made him feel like his bed was floating on the ocean, with floor-to-ceiling windows and loads of space to take it all in. Whether you're after a relaxing day by one of the hotel's ultra cool pools, or an epic beach escape, this place is total holiday magic.

As tempting as lying by the pool all day was, Jason's mission was to dive into the local Cabo food scene. A 10 minute drive inland from the resort, the charming heart of downtown San José del Cabo is small, safe, and walkable. Every Tuesday night restaurants roll out wallet-friendly special menus and the historic streets fill with tourists and locals alike. Brimming with flavour choices, 'Sabores San José' offers everything from Michelin starred restaurants to tasty churros and taco trucks.

Jason started at Agave Kitchen, set on a beautiful rooftop in the arts district. They focus on artisanal, farm-to-table cuisine where everything is cooked slowly in a stone oven over mesquite wood. This style delivered a smoky, rich, and delicious flavour, highlighted in their renowned suckling pig dish. Eager to try the tasty favourite, Jason excitedly wrapped some of the pork in a tortilla and poured over the spicy avocado sauce for a mouth-watering taco with a twist.

Next up was Baja Brewing, a pioneering craft brewery, where one‐of‐a‐kind beers using fresh local ingredients are served exclusively on site. Jason tried their summer brew made with the sweetness of mango for a smooth fresh drink.

For an unexpected final stop, Jason came across Omakai Sushi just two blocks off the main strip. The sleek space offered an escape into a serene Japanese courtyard under the stars. The Michelin recommended haute cuisine menus featured a la carte, teppanyaki, or Omakase tasting platters featuring the freshest local tuna, Alaskan salmon, scallops and more!

San José del Cabo proved that the "good life in Cabo" isn't just about sun and luxurious resorts, but also about embracing the community's vibrant, arty lifestyle and diverse culinary scene. It was a feast for the senses, and one that you must explore on a trip to Baja California.
