The Saône and Rhône rivers meet in the French food capital of Lyon. It was also the starting point of Scenic's Spectacular South of France ultra-luxury river cruise. Before setting off, David was excited to visit Lyon's famous Paul Bocuse markets. With over 50 stalls showcasing the finest French produce, he was in foodie heaven. There was something to tantalise every taste bud, but David embraced the French way and went for simple but extremely tasty local cheese with a fresh baguette. His next stop was Chocolats Voison, their delicious chocolates are handmade using 120 year old traditional methods. David bought a box of Coussin de Lyon marzipan chocolates to enjoy while on the cruise.

Travelling through a tapestry of vineyards and lush farmland, David arrived at the beautiful town of Beaune, where he joined a guided tour through Les Hospices. Built in 1452 as a charity hospital for the poor, the highly decorated buildings are some of the most photographed in France.
Wine traditions run deep in Burgundy, and beneath the streets of Beaune is over a hectare of wine cellars dating back to the 16th century! David visited the beautiful subterranean cellar of Joseph Drouhin, once run by dukes and kings of France. After a personal tour he was lucky to taste some of their notable varieties.
